EVA Air moves into EBT era with Peak Pacific’s Clear Suite

Hong Kong and Taipei, 2 May, 2017

EVA Air Corporation, the premium 5-star airline from Taiwan, has rolled out its Evidence-Based Training (EBT) initiative, moving the airline into a new era of analysis-based training management solution.

In late 2014, EVA Air embarked on an exciting project to introduce Evidence-based Training (EBT) in response to EVA Air’s attitude of ‘Safety First’ plus the realisation that aviation training, in general, had become outdated. This was followed by a small focused team set up to analyse the size and scope of the project before deciding on the solution. The Airline implemented the human aspect of changes necessary within the training department and airline before selecting and implementing the Peak Pacific EBT software product, ‘CLEAR’ to power its EBT initiative.

The CLEAR Suite is the flagship software product from Peak Pacific, the Hong Kong-based Learning & Technology provider that is a dominant and leading provider of Aviation Learning solutions.

According to EVA Air’s Director of Training, Capt. Gary Peng ???, “EVA Air is always focused on the importance and quality of our training product in generating safe and effective performance in our pilots. We recognized the challenges faced by our flight crews, and made the choice to upgrade crew competencies by modernizing recurrent training to a 21st century methodology. We chose Evidence Based Training (EBT), endorsed by ICAO, which includes core competencies a pilot needs to operate safely, effectively, and efficiently, and considers the generation of the technologically advanced aircraft in the EVA AIR fleet.”

Capt. Gary Peng ??? added, “as part of managing the change, it was necessary to incorporate a software solution to effectively administer and manage the EBT program. EVA partnered with Peak Pacific and selected their CLEAR Suite. CLEAR includes a comprehensive and secure competency based assessment and grading system, with data collection and analysis tools. Also of importance, is the ability to work on multiple platforms, desktops, laptops and mobile devices, both on and offline. The system is expandable and provides all the capabilities EVA requires as we continue to transfer all training programs to the CLEAR Suite, and for future growth.”

Peak Pacific Founder & Group CEO, Kishor Mistry, said, “EVA Air is an exceptional and prestigious addition to the rapidly growing list of customers taking up our EBT solution. We are particularly pleased to have collaborated with EVA Air on this project, and the airline having taken great care and paid attention to detail with regards to the introduction of a complex solution. This included change management, system integration with Jeppesen rostering system and phased roll-out to ensure total buy-in and success for the airline.

Along with the requisite training, a great deal of effort has been shown by the EVA Air team to align EBT influenced training policies and procedures, with the assistance of the Civil Aeronautics Administration (Taiwan).

Results thus far are encouraging. The ability to identify route causes rather than simply achieving an outcome is noted as one of the key elements in the success of EBT and 21st Century aviation training.”
