The client’s initiative is a priority special project of their transformation agenda and supports accelerated learning and capacity building towards achievement of the 13th General Programme of Work targets. On 11 June 2019 the President of France and the Director-General signed a Declaration of Intent to establish a client that will revolutionize lifelong learning in health.

LEARNING GOAL OVERVIEW

The Integrated Management of Childhood Illness (IMCI) approach stands as a beacon of hope in the realm of pediatric healthcare, steadfast in its commitment to curbing childhood mortality and enhancing the standard of care for prevalent childhood illnesses, particularly within primary healthcare settings. With its principles rooted in evidence-based practices, IMCI has garnered global recognition, earning adoption by over 100 countries worldwide.

It serves as a guiding light for thousands of dedicated healthcare professionals, equipping them with the tools and knowledge necessary to effectively intervene and save precious young lives. IMCI’s impact transcends borders, uniting a diverse array of nations in a collective effort to safeguard the health and well-being of their youngest citizens. Through the tireless dedication of these healthcare practitioners, IMCI continues to pave the way towards a future where every child receives the care and attention they deserve, regardless of geographic location or socioeconomic status.

CUSTOMER CHALLENGE

The challenge at hand was multi-faceted: it required the Academy to align its efforts with the overarching objective of bolstering the learning and developmental aspirations of client’s staff and stakeholders. Their collective aim? To propel progress towards the client’s audacious “triple billion” ambition of curbing child mortality rates to 25 or fewer deaths per 1000 live births by the year 2030. Achieving this monumental feat necessitates an all-encompassing approach, particularly through the provision of extensive training programs tailored to the specific needs of healthcare workers. This imperative is especially pronounced in regions burdened by the grim reality of preventable childhood mortality, where the need for skilled medical professionals is most dire. Thus, the Academy’s mandate extends far beyond mere instruction; it embodies a beacon of hope, forging pathways towards a future where every child has the chance to thrive.

SOLUTION

The proposed solution entails the development of self-paced modules designed to comprehensively address prevalent childhood conditions. These modules serve as an invaluable resource, equipping healthcare professionals with the necessary skills to effectively navigate various scenarios encountered in pediatric care. Within these modules, practitioners are empowered to:

  • identify signs & symptoms to assess every sick child for common childhood illnesses.
  • treat a severely ill child before urgent referral.
  • combine different guidelines when caring for a sick child with several problems.
  • treat or counsel when referral isn’t needed.

These modules empower practitioners to enhance their clinical skills, improving the quality of care for children globally.

RESULTS

The self-paced e-learning will enable healthcare workers all over the world to provide better healthcare to children including diagnosis, disease prevention and management thereby enabling client to move towards its “triple billion” goal of reducing child mortality to at least 25 or less deaths per 1000 live birth by 2030.
